This February, the Chef Works Wellness Committee is proud to support the Urban League of San Diego County, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist African Americans and other underserved people to achieve social and economic equality. In celebration of Black History Month and Valentine’s Day, Chef Works is donating the proceeds of our company-wide candy gram exchange, matched by the company, to the Urban League of San Diego County.
Founded in 1910, the National Urban League was created to elevate the standards of living for historically underserved urban communities. The League works with leaders at the local and national levels, promoting economic empowerment through education and job training, housing and community development, health, and more. The League knows what it takes to create real change for real people, and it’s our honor to support their affiliate organization here in our home of San Diego.
Take a look at some of the incredible ways ULSDC is uplifting the local community:
- Employment and on-the-job training
- College prep for youth
- Social-family-employment counseling
- Recovery and rehabilitation
- Housing and homeownership
- Neighborhood preservation and advocacy
- Elderly health outreach
- Women’s re-entry programs
Through candy gram sales and Chef Works’ corporate gift matching, Chef Works is donating a total of $1,342 to the Urban League of San Diego County. It’s our honor to support in whatever ways we can, while also acknowledging the pressing need for ongoing aid for African Americans and other communities of color.
We invite you to visit ULSDC’s website, and consider donating or getting involved. Remember: change starts small — in our case, as small as a Valentine’s Day lollipop. Together, we can make the change our world needs.
