One Magic Ingredient to Make Ice-Cream 5 Ways!

I don’t know why but I have been indulging myself in ice cream a lot lately.  Since I eat it often, I switched to a healthier alternative that my sister introduced to me. I was amazed at the whole idea that a banana could make such a delicious dessert all by itself.

Don’t get me wrong, I love banana ice-cream by itself, but after a while I began experimenting with different variations and flavors to keep it interesting. It started out as just adding a spoonful of peanut butter, but quickly turned into numerous different flavors to enjoy.

Anytime I have bananas looking like they’re about to check out, I peel and freeze them for ice-cream. If they are too far gone though, I freeze them to use for some amazing banana bread. Either way it’s a delicious use of bananas.

It is also a very healthful snack. banana ice-cream is vegan, and very low on ingredients even when you start adding stuff for different flavors. So it makes a great healthy treat for little kids! I like to trick my niece into thinking its regular ice-cream!

Other than contributing a great flavor, the banana in this recipe also provides a nutritional punch. It contains a variety of vitamins and minerals such as a good amount of dietary fiber, protein, and potassium.

Flavor #1: Banana

Start with really ripe bananas. They should be sweet and soft with little brown freckles on them.

There are two ways to freeze the bananas. Option number one is to peel them, put them in a freezer bag, and freeze until solid. When I freeze the bananas this way I like to let it stay in the freezer over night.

When I am trying to make it faster, I peel the bananas and cut them into coins. It doesn’t matter what thickness it is as long as it is relatively small and they are all even. Put the bananas on a cookie sheet for about two hours or until solid.

Blend the frozen banana pieces in a small food processor or powerful blender: Pulse the frozen banana pieces. We’ve found that a small food processor or chopper works best.

Keep blending — the banana will look crumbly: At first the banana pieces will look crumbled or smashed. Scrape down the food processor.

Keep blending, and it will begin to look gooey, but still have chunks in it. Scrape down the food processor. After a little while longer you will have a soft serve consistency.
